The optimal start for a resilient plant

Sustainability is our top priority. One of the ways we express this is by developing substrates that contain little to no peat. We also search relentlessly for new, sustainable raw materials that can be used in our substrates. Intensive research over the past few years and the insights we have gained have resulted in the development of a new raw material for substrate: Basis BioMix.
Basis BioMix is an efficient substrate raw material with the right biological composition to promote resilient, robust crops. The broad biological composition of Basis BioMix ensures a biological balance in a substrate from the beginning, and creates a healthy root zone environment for the plants.

Resilient growth

As the various raw materials in Basis BioMix are combined in advance, it immediately provides a sound foundation for balanced soil life. Its 100% organic composition, including beneficial streptomycetes microbes, boosts the nutrient uptake and activates balanced soil life.

Strong start

Basis BioMix forms a good energy source to ensure the optimal environment for soil life to thrive. A good, strong start boosts the resilience, vitality and disease resistance of plants. Resulting in a vigorous and healthy crop! The nitrifying bacteria in Basis BioMix also improve the effectiveness of your organic fertilisers.

Benefits

The key properties of Basis BioMix:

  • Contains 100% renewable raw materials
  • Balanced soil life
  • Good nutrient, moisture and pH buffering effect in low-peat and peat-free substrates
  • Approved for organic growing methods
  • Balanced combination of raw materials creates a good energy source to ensure an optimal environment for soil life
  • Good physical properties ensure effective water distribution, air content and substrate consistency

Basis BioMix can be added easily to all substrates and is suitable for universal use for all crops. From the initial application, Basis BioMix ensures good nutrient and pH buffering and a good moisture balance - particularly in low-peat and peat-free substrates. When added to substrates that contain peat, it will also lower the peat percentage.

Insight into sustainability and eco-footprint

The themes of sustainability and environmentally-conscious cultivation are gaining traction throughout the horticultural sector. To support growers in this transition, all our substrates are categorised into a sustainability class. This class gives our customers continuous insight into the sustainability and circularity of a substrate and the corresponding properties. This classification system not only aims to offer CO2 and peat-free substrates, it also examines the origin and type of organic raw materials and fertilisers.

Four different classes are used: A, B, C and D. The sustainability class of a substrate is determined based on a set of pre-defined standards. By taking these criteria into account when formulating a substrate blend, we can produce a product with the desired sustainability class.

The table below shows the different classes and the applicable criteria ranging from the peat percentage to increasing use of circular raw materials.

A Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 50% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials
  • No inorganic fertilizers

CO2 Footprint Class A
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

B Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 15% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials

CO2 Footprint Class B
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • Maximum 65% peat
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class C
(50-150kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • More than 65% peat (unlimited)
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class D
(70-350kg eq/ENm3)
