Pepper growers go back to nature

Today, an interesting and independent article about the development of substrates in pepper cultivation was published on Foodlog.nl, in which, among other things, our Greenline Food is discussed.

The roots of pepper plants are now allowed to grow in organic material instead of rock wool. Back to nature, but in a modern guise. The soil of today consists entirely of coconut fibres or a mixture of natural origin. The plants grow surprisingly well on that. A third of the pepper area has now been converted. More gardeners will follow.

Last year, pepper growers came and went to the company of two brothers in IJsselmuiden. They all came to see a new substrate mat from Lensli, the so-called Green Line Food, which is not filled with rock wool, but a mixture of rice husks, bark (tree bark), wood fibre and coconut. The company had been struggling with root problems for a few years, which meant that the plants did not look happy and production decreased. A test with this organic mat was placed between the usual rock wool mats. In that test, the plants remained fresh and fruity.
