John van Oosterwijck BV

The collaboration with Lensli goes back to 2004. We have been working together for 18 years on a green future.”

John van Oosterwijck BV is a family business that has just been passed on to the next generation. With great pleasure, the two daughters of John van Oosterwijck have taken over from their father, dividing up the management tasks well. Nicole van Oosterwijck is mainly concerned with production (planning, purchasing, propagation, etc.) and the financial side of the company. Chantal van Oosterwijck is mainly involved in sales, marketing and human resources.

With an annual production of 7 million perennials, John van Oosterwijck BV is one of the largest players on the Dutch market. All their plants are grown in square 9 cm pots, fitted with a label slot, which can be supplied in disposable plastic trays or in the traditional Veenman boxes as required. Of the 7 million perennials, 60% are set up in the summer, 15% in the autumn and the remaining 25% in the spring, in order to still be able to deliver a fresh quality. Because production continues almost all year round, John van Oosterwijck can optimally serve its customers.

Corporate social responsibility is of paramount importance. The nursery therefore uses the most modern and environmentally friendly methods to cultivate. In addition, they strive for an open, pleasant and safe working environment for their employees. As a result, their employees enjoy coming to work and are motivated to deliver a high-quality product.

John van Oosterwijck BV mainly supplies garden centres, gardeners, wholesalers and fellow growers in the Netherlands and abroad. The products for the garden centers leave on carts with an inserted label, after which the plants are placed on tables in garden centers and sold. The rest of the plants, supplied to tree nurseries, exporters, fellow growers and large landscapers, for example, are delivered in traditional Veenman crates on pallets. These plants are often planted directly or used for potting into larger pots.

As a company, John van Oosterwijck BV wants to put a high-quality and strong product on the market, with which it can serve its customers as well as possible. That is why they are always looking for opportunities to further optimize their products and business operations. The most important components for cultivation are of course the potting soil (substrate), the water quality and the quality of the starting material (planting material). This in combination with the right fertilization, which is tailored as much as possible to the demand of the plant in order to achieve a high-quality product. With regard to the substrate, the most important requirements are that the potting soil can both retain and drain the water in a timely manner. In addition, the substrate must prevent moss growth. In consultation with Lensli, they continue to develop and perfect their substrate.

“The choice for Lensli was made at the time based on sounds from the market or from our own experience by simply trying it.”
