High quality substrate for flowering pot plants

Thanks to our many years of operating in the flowering pot plant segment, we have built up plenty of experience with growers and the crops in this segment. Founded on this wealth of experience, we can rely on formulas that have proven their value in practice and form a basis for new applications. We have developed and formulated a basic substrate for each plant within the flowering pot plants segment, such as kalanchoe, cyclamen, anthurium, bromelia, poinsettia and calla. This enables us to optimally serve existing and new customers and offer a high level of quality and continuity. The availability of the basic substrate makes us flexible and quick to respond, as completely new substrates do not have to be formulated, developed, trialled and assessed. Quality and attention to the specific situation are important principles when developing a substrate.

Innovation for greenhouse horticulture

Built on our long experience and expertise of greenhouse horticulture, we have developed a peat-free, basic substrate. Extensive trials and research reveal that our peat-free basic substrate performs just as well as regular peat substrates, and in some situations even better.

Our peat-free basic substrate for flowering pot plants consists of a combination of sphagnum peat, wood fibre and bark. The combination of these raw materials creates a very airy substrate where plants can root easily.

In the same way as all our basic substrates, our peat-free substrate has proven its effectiveness for crops grown indoors and outdoors. It is also suitable for year-round cultivation and seasonal crops.

Sustainable and homogeneous product

By carefully selecting our raw materials, we can supply an extremely homogeneous product from our two production sites in the Netherlands. We can offer our customers a high level of continuity and quality.

Benefits and properties

The main properties of our basic substrates for flowering pot plants:

  • Contains natural, organic raw materials.
  • All raw materials are RHP certified, so safe to use.
  • Favourable potting behaviour. Plants grown in our substrates are more firmly rooted in the pot than other products on the market.
  • Stable and homogeneous substrates ensure uniform and constant quality.
  • Continuity and guaranteed quality for growers
  • Higher water and nutrient buffering capacity than other solutions.
  • Suitable for year-round cultivation and seasonal crops.
  • Our substrates help growers increase their sustainability and achieve the smallest possible footprint.

Insight into sustainability and eco-footprint

The themes of sustainability and environmentally-conscious cultivation are gaining traction throughout the horticultural sector. To support growers in this transition, all our substrates are categorised into a sustainability class. This class gives our customers continuous insight into the sustainability and circularity of a substrate and the corresponding properties. This classification system not only aims to offer CO2 and peat-free substrates, it also examines the origin and type of organic raw materials and fertilisers.

Four different classes are used: A, B, C and D. The sustainability class of a substrate is determined based on a set of pre-defined standards. By taking these criteria into account when formulating a substrate blend, we can produce a product with the desired sustainability class.

The table below shows the different classes and the applicable criteria ranging from the peat percentage to increasing use of circular raw materials.

A Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 50% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials
  • No inorganic fertilizers

CO2 Footprint Class A
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

B Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 15% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials

CO2 Footprint Class B
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • Maximum 65% peat
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class C
(50-150kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • More than 65% peat (unlimited)
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class D
(70-350kg eq/ENm3)
