Vegetable cultivation

Organic substrate for vegetable growers

In recent years, our organic substrate Greenline Food has proven to be very successful with vegetable growers.

Greenline Food is a completely organic basic substrate that is composed exclusively of circular raw materials. Due to its unique composition, Greenline Food offers vital and resilient plants, a reduced chance of crazy roots and excellent absorption of nutritional elements due to a stable pH throughout the entire cultivation.

Greenline Food is extremely suitable for cucumber, pepper, tomato, melon and eggplant crops.

Why use organic substrate?

Greenline Food consists of rice hulls, bark, wood fiber and coconut. This raw material combination increases the resilience of the plants and increases the absorption of Calcium and Boron through the natural source of silicon.

In addition, Greenline Food reduces the waste flow, because the organic residual product can be made suitable for compost users in the higher segment. We at Lensli are a raw material-independent party, which means we can advise what is actually desirable for the substrate and the relevant cultivation, regardless of the raw materials we have in-house at that time.

Resilient plants

The unique composition of Greenline Food strengthens the resistance of your plants to various diseases and fungi and results in lower production losses. Research performed by DCM shows that beneficial trichoderma and mycorrhiza will flourish after they have been added to our substrate.

The circular nature of GreenLine Food offers growers a way to increase the sustainability of their crops, eliminate the use of chemical pesticides and reduce waste. Sustainability is paramount at Lensli. The sustainability classes of our substrates support our customers in their transition to more sustainable growing practices and provide insight into their eco-footprint.

Choice of two variants

Greenline Food is available in two variants, namely Greenline Food and Greenline Food PF.

Green Line Food
The first variant has a base of 75% renewable raw materials and consists of, among other things, rice husks, bark, wood fiber and coconut.

Greenline Food PF
This variant consists entirely (100%) of renewable components. Because Greenline Food PF is completely organic and we have replaced the last part of non-renewable raw materials with the Basic BioMix, optimal conditions can be created for both the soil life already present in the soil and the soil life added (trichoderma). The added Basic BioMix also ensures a better effect of organic fertilizers due to the presence of nitrifying bacteria.

Both variants are available in functional grow bags or separately, for use in substrate containers.

Benefits and properties

The key properties of Greenline Food:

  • Organic substrate, which promotes better plant resistance.
  • Initial pH and EC values can be adjusted to suit specific situations.
  • All raw materials are RHP certified, so safe to use.
  • All peat-related raw materials meet the RPP requirements.
  • 100% organic material, for easy disposal and recycling.
  • Choice of two variants: a basis of 75% renewable raw materials (Greenline Food) or a fully renewable variant (Greenline Food PF).
  • Thanks to the Basic BioMix, Greenline Food PF has good moisture management, nutrient and pH buffering from the first use.
  • Supplied in growbags or for use in substrate containers.

Do you use stone wool plugs or blocks? No problem! Practical experience has shown that the roots in the stone wool block will continue to grow well in Greenline Food.

Insight into sustainability and eco-footprint

The themes of sustainability and environmentally-conscious cultivation are gaining traction throughout the horticultural sector. To support growers in this transition, all our substrates are categorised into a sustainability class. This class gives our customers continuous insight into the sustainability and circularity of a substrate and the corresponding properties. This classification system not only aims to offer CO2 and peat-free substrates, it also examines the origin and type of organic raw materials and fertilisers.

Four different classes are used: A, B, C and D. The sustainability class of a substrate is determined based on a set of pre-defined standards. By taking these criteria into account when formulating a substrate blend, we can produce a product with the desired sustainability class.

The table below shows the different classes and the applicable criteria ranging from the peat percentage to increasing use of circular raw materials.

A Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 50% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials
  • No inorganic fertilizers

CO2 Footprint Class A
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

B Class

  • 100% Peat free
  • At least 15% green raw materials
  • Maximum 35% mineral raw materials

CO2 Footprint Class B
(<60kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • Maximum 65% peat
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class C
(50-150kg eq/ENm3)

Class

  • More than 65% peat (unlimited)
  • Exclusively RPP peat

CO2 Footprint Class D
(70-350kg eq/ENm3)
