Topping soils

As the use of many plant protection products continues to be restricted, effective weed control is becoming more of a challenge for growers. Covering the top of the pot with an organic topping soil is a good, sustainable alternative. To germinate and grow, weeds and moss need moisture. Applying a natural topping soil dries the surface of the pot faster and prevents moisture evaporating from the pot. This creates a dry top layer that discourages the germination of weeds.

Lensli has developed its own line of topping soils under the name Herbaedeck. Herbaedeck is suitable for every pot size and can be used for crops grown indoors and outdoors. Our sustainable Herbaedeck topping soils offer growers the certainty of a product made exclusively from organic, circular raw materials that are safe for plants. Our topping soils belong to the few on the market that are fully RHP certified.

Why use organic topping soil?

Organic topping soils have an authentic, natural appearance, they are sustainable and offer various practical benefits. We often use materials such as bark, coconut fibre and rice husks because they are suitable for all pot sizes. As these natural materials are also suitable for mechanised processing, they can be easily ‘scattered’ on top of the pot as a topping soil.

Many kinds of organic topping soil decompose very slowly, or hardy at all, so they offer an effective, long-term solution to eliminate weed and moss growth on the pot. This reduces the time and labour input for weed control, and the frequency of pot cleaning.

Herbaedeck

We offer four types of topping soil, each with its own specific properties and benefits.

Herbadeck 1

Herbaedeck 1 is made of a special type of hard bark. As this bark decomposes very slowly, it attaches to the pot for relatively longer and offers excellent protection against weeds and moss. Thanks to the hardness of the bark, Herbaedeck 1 is very easy to apply manually or mechanically to the pot. Its naturally dark, attractive colour adds high decorative value to the pot.

Benefits:

  • Specially screened bark for good drying effect
  • RHP-certified Bark
  • High decorative value
  • Can be applied mechanically
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor crops
  • Attaches well to the pot surface | however, the topping soil will become loose if the pots fall over

Herbaedeck Mini (Bark)

Herbaedeck Mini is the finer version of Herbaedeck 1 and ideal for smaller pot sizes. Due to the hardness of the bark, it decomposes very slowly, and offers long-term protection against weeds and moss. Herbaedeck Mini is easy to apply mechanically and adds high decorative value.

Benefits:

  • Specially screened bark for good drying effect
  • RHP-certified Bark
  • High decorative value
  • Can be applied mechanically
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor crops
  • Attaches well to the pot surface | however, the topping soil will become loose if the pots fall over

Herbaedeck BVR

Herbaedeck BVR consists of organic, circular raw materials (bark, coconut fibre and rice husks). Its strong binding capacity helps it stay in place on the pot much better than other alternatives on the market. The highly decorative appearance of Herbaedeck BVR adds value for our customers when the pots are sold.

Benefits:

  • Strong fibres for firm, natural binding
  • Specially screened bark and steam-treated rice husks for good drying effect
  • RHP-certified raw materials
  • High decorative value
  • Can be applied mechanically
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor crops

Herbaedeck HBR

Herbaedeck HBR also consists of XNUMX% organic, circular raw materials, but has a slightly different composition than Herbaedeck BVR as it contains wood fibre, bark and rice husks. Its strong binding capacity helps it stay in place on the pot much better than other alternatives on the market. The highly decorative appearance of Herbaedeck HBR adds value for our customers when the pots are sold.

Benefits:

  • Strong fibres for firm, natural binding
  • Specially screened bark and steam-treated rice husks for good drying effect
  • RHP-certified raw materials
  • High decorative value
  • Can be applied mechanically
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor crops
